Education:
As I grew up in Canada, I went to a french-speaking high school in my home town of Ottawa (2010). I then spent 5 years as an undergraduate at the University of Ottawa, starting off the degree in French and finishing it in English (2010-2015). As part of those 5 years, I spent one year in internships in 4 different compagnies working on R&D, quality control or basic science research in Ottawa or in Montreal. I then pursued a 1 year international Master’s degree in Germany, at the Heinrich Heine University specialising in stem cells and regenerative medicine (2016-2017). I will be starting a PhD in at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, based outside of Cambridge UK in October 2020 for 4 years.

Work History:
During the first summers as an undergrad, I worked as a lifeguard for our local pool or a science camp counsellor at our University. As part of the 4 month-internships scheme, I worked as a technician for Environment Canada doing lots of spectrophotometry and analysing the data – it was more of a manual labour type of job. I then worked as a technician in the raw material laboratories of L’Oreal to perform quality control experiments – it involved lots of chemistry and very rigid protocols, which introduced me to ‘pharmacy standards’. I then moved on to Lallemand to do basic research on yeast and their utility in biofuel production. Lastly, I worked at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute on a project involving immune cells, viruses and cytokines which become my final undergraduate project (1 year). After travelling for a few months and before starting my master’s, I worked at a coffee barista for a few months.Advanced Research Assistant at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire.

Current Job:
I am currently working as an Advanced Research Assistant at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire. I have my own research project investigating the role of a specific gene, PLCG2, in the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). To do so, I use stem cells, gene editing tools, RNA-sequencing and other end-point assays. I spend most of the time in the lab doing cell culture or experiments, but I am also learning some bioinformatic skills to analyse the data I generate.
