I am deeply interested in T cells and the immune response againts cancer. The tumour microenvironment can be challenging to target for the immune system, as it can develop several immunosuppresive mechanisms that inhibt the correct function of the T cells. However, the T cells can be modified to enhance this response and eliminate the tumour cells. I found this fascinating, and I am working to identify new targets to enhance T cell survival and/or function within the tumour microenvironment.
One of my favourite things to do is to look at the T cells interacting with tumour cells. Here you can see a picture of what I sometimes see under the microscope.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up, take a shower and drink some coffee, if the weather is nice I would take my bike and do a ride of one hour and 15 minutes to go to the lab. There I will look at the T cells growing and I will try to see how they respond to tumour cells.
