The origins are not 100% clear yet. However, the majority of scientists agree that COVID-19 passed from animals into humans, likely at a live-animal food market. Genetic analysis suggests that the virus came from either bats or pangolins into humans, or possibly passed from bats to pangolins and then pangolins to humans. Patient zero is the very first person to be infected with the disease by the animal. Scientists don’t yet know who patient zero is, and may never know the exact origin. Lots of scientists are working hard to understand all of this in more detail though.
