Depends on what you mean by teaching! I volunteered in sixth form (when I was in Year 13) to help Year 3 students learn to read. I also ran some holiday courses teaching kids how to play tennis. During my PhD (which I am doing right now at the University of Manchester), I teach undergraduate pharmacy students in lab sessions. I also go out into schools (and also help to host schools at the University of Manchester) to run workshops for students from years 3-13 on a variety of topics including how science is sometimes twisted in the media, and also on things like the EPQ. Sorry if this reads a bit like a CV, it works out as about 8 years of ‘teaching’ – hopefully this answers your question!
I’ve been teaching university students for about 3 years now – we don’t have to do it (a lot of the scientists in my department only do research), but it’s one of my favourite things to do! I love getting to know the students and seeing them improve and succeed.
