To tackle the virus first there needs to be clear leadership where people have to wear masks to reduce spread, proper testing where everyone can be tested readily and healthcare systems which are funded and prepared for this sorts of outbreaks. You also need rigorous contact tracing, in doing so you can find people who may have been near an infected person, have them quarantine and isolate for 2 weeks to ensure their likelihood of being infected is none. As well as this, good hand hygiene along with education on how these diseases spread is a must.

This all needs to occur because there is no guarantee that we will have a vaccine quickly, the fastest vaccine ever made was 4 years.

Hi Claudia, Here in Oxford we’ve been working very hard to develop and test a potential vaccine much faster than we would ever usually be able to, and there are lots of other scientists around the world working on vaccines too – we’re all hoping that one of these will work as that would be the most effective solution.
