Hi Maria, malaria immediately springs to mind, it certainly causes millions of deaths and an enormous burden on society. But how does it compare to cancer or viral infections like the flu, I don’t really know.

Currently the deadliest disease in the world is Ischemic Heart Disease with (AKA. Coronary Artery Disease) with ~8,800,000 deaths a year (https://www.healthline.com/health/top-10-deadliest-diseases). Coronary artery disease occurs when the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart become narrowed. Untreated, it can lead to heart failure.
