We basically don’t know the answer to it yet. You’re right that it seems like children DO seem to be getting COVID-19, but aren’t symptomatic. Children have differences in their immune systems compared to adults, so it may be that their immune systems are stronger so they “fight the disease off” better, or alternatively it may be that their less developed immune systems are not reacting as strongly to the COVID-19 infection. A lot of the symptoms of COVID-19 are actually caused by the way your immune system reacts to the infection, so they may actually be having a smaller response leading to less symptoms
