Thanks for your question. I have done many other things in my career from selling medical devices to customers worldwide, running my own business from home and being a technical author for an engineering company. I have spent many years working in quality assurance and regulatory affairs, making sure the products made by the companies I work for are safe and meet the legal requirements to be sold. This work still involved a lot of technical and scientific skills.
Throughout all of this time in different jobs I have always had the passion to work in medical research and follow the dreams I’ve had since I was a small child. Sometimes life takes us on a different path for a while for many different reasons, but if you have a dream and work hard, it is possible to do what you dream of.
I don’t think so! Science is very rewarding and working on diseases in particular makes it feel like you’re doing something useful to help and even save people. At the moment especially, I’m very excited to be working on the COVID-19 vaccine developed in Oxford – finding solutions to the pandemic is probably one of the most important jobs in the world at the moment!
